Carrot’s Product Design Team works hard to ensure our product is simple and easy to use. They work behind the scenes as the gatekeepers of our user experience and assure the best quality in our Carrot products. One of the members of this team is Phil Lee (he/him), Carrot’s Senior Product Design Manager.
Based in Austin, Texas, Phil leads a team of designers to provide optimal solutions to any issues users may face.
We sat down with Phil to learn more about his experience and favorite parts of working at Carrot.
What do you do in your role at Carrot?
The Product Design team is the gatekeeper of user experience and interface quality of Carrot products. We are responsible for shaping how Carrot’s products impact our users’ lives. As the Senior Product Design Manager, I lead a team of designers, and together, we aim to provide the most optimal solutions to issues that our users may face.
When did you join Carrot?
I joined Carrot in April of 2021.
Why did you join Carrot?
I joined Carrot for two key reasons: the potential of the company and the ability to be a part of something where I could make a significant impact. Carrot’s core values are reflected in its products, and these products offer great potential in the market. By working on these products, I can make an impact by bringing inclusivity to a larger portion of the world.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is collaborating with such amazing minds to help bring ideas and visions into existence. Seeing our designs bring about a better quality of life for our users is really fulfilling.
What is your favorite perk about working at Carrot?
Carrot allows the flexibility to work from anywhere in the country. With many different time zones at play, you would think you’d need to work outside of a traditional nine-to-five schedule to accommodate meetings with coworkers in these different time zones. However, at Carrot, everyone respects each other’s time and schedule, which means I get to keep my nine-to-five schedule and make all my meetings.
How would you describe Carrot’s culture?
Simply put, I can describe Carrot’s culture as an ego-free environment. Everyone from the associate level to leadership works toward our goals at Carrot, allowing us to bring out the best in one another. Also, the Leadership Team supports innovation while maintaining clear goals, allowing the different teams to have productive workshops and ideation sessions to provide the best solution possible. I can confidently say that I’ve grown significantly from surrounding myself with such kind-hearted and intelligent people.
What do you appreciate the most about working at Carrot?
What I appreciate the most about working at Carrot is the opportunity for growth. Carrot invests in career development and tries to better its employees and promote from within. The open feedback I receive from my managers and peers is also invaluable and has helped me grow tremendously. I am recognized when I deliver great work and receive honest, constructive critique when something could have been done better. Carrot is truly an ego-free environment that allows everyone to improve.
