Carrot’s fertility healthcare and family-forming platform is proven to help members have healthier pregnancies and babies. Today, we’re proud to publish the results of an internal study demonstrating the highest reported single embryo transfer (SET) rate of fertility benefits vendors as well as an IVF pregnancy rate greatly exceeding national averages.

We achieve our industry-leading single embryo transfer (SET) rate through our flexible plan design, which meaningfully improves medical outcomes, including healthy pregnancies and successful future live births, without also contributing to the overuse of expensive and sometimes unnecessary interventions. Carrot enables access to personalized, evidence-based care based on member needs rather than prescribing a predefined course of treatments in a one-size-fits-all approach. Members receive medical care within Carrot’s vetted provider network and seek additional guidance and around-the-clock support through Carrot’s team of care navigators and fertility experts. Carrot’s coverage is comprehensive, age inclusive, and provides benefits across a wide variety of member journeys, including fertility, pregnancy, adoption, gestational surrogacy services, menopause, low testosterone, and more.

Carrot engaged Milliman, Inc., an independent global leader in actuarial services, to evaluate the methodology Carrot used to evaluate and compare the various fertility treatment measures of its members to national benchmarks. Milliman found the general methodology used to compare measures between Carrot data to these benchmarks to be appropriate and reasonable. Read the full report.

“For years, Carrot’s personalized care navigation has met members where they are and optimized for healthy outcomes and cost-effectiveness,” said Dr. Asima Ahmad, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Carrot Fertility. “This study further validates our team's work to provide education around medically-appropriate care based on the latest clinical guidelines. We’re proud to offer a benefit that makes a meaningful impact on our members’ lives.”

SET is the single most predictive indicator of a singleton IVF pregnancy and successful singleton live birth.
IVF pregnancy rates demonstrate the success rates of embryo transfers.
PGT-A allows providers to assess the genetic status of an embryo prior to transfer and can impact IVF pregnancy rates in certain populations; Carrot's utilization of PGT-A is aligned with the demographics of these recommended populations

Carrot's SET program

Some of the most commonly used measures to assess the success of fertility treatments and likelihood of a healthy singleton pregnancy and live birth include SET rate and IVF pregnancy rate. SET is the single most predictive indicator of a singleton IVF pregnancy and subsequent successful live birth. It is an important clinical protocol used to avoid multiple gestation pregnancies, which are associated with higher medical costs and poorer health outcomes for mothers and infants. Preterm birth, low birth weight, neurological impairments, and death are more common outcomes of multiple gestation pregnancies compared to singleton pregnancies.

Along with provider partnerships that enable access to valuable data, Carrot members receive education and navigation to medically appropriate care based on the most up-to-date clinical best practices, delivering proven ROI to employers.

Industry-leading outcomes: Better experiences, lower costs

Research shows that about 10% of all babies are born preterm every year, which can be incredibly taxing emotionally and financially. By focusing on clinical best practices and obtaining industry-leading SET rates — the single most predictive indicator of a singleton IVF pregnancy and subsequent successful singleton live birth — Carrot leads to better outcomes, better member experiences, and, ultimately, lower costs.
