Employee spotlight: Kristina Flippen, People Operations team

Carrot has grown a lot in just a few years — we recently welcomed our 300th Carrot. With all these new hires, the People team has been busy building out a full-scale recruiting function and process. The Talent team partners across our leadership team and throughout the business to provide the training, support, and resources needed to create a function that centers around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and an excellent candidate experience.

Kristina Flippen manages the end-to-end recruitment process for Carrot's Customer Success team. She first joined Carrot as a Talent Operations Associate, and throughout her time in that role, she and her manager had frequent development conversations to support her goal of moving into a recruiting role. When she first joined, only two people were on the Talent team. This gave Kristina the opportunity to support the creation of systems, processes, and training, leading to her promotion to a Recruiter earlier this year.

We sat down with Kristina to learn a bit more about her experiences, her favorite parts of working at Carrot, and how she uses her Carrot benefits. If you’re looking to join a team where you can learn and grow, we’re hiring.

When did you join Carrot?

One year ago!

What is your team’s role?

Carrot's Talent team is now six strong. Yes, we fill open roles, but we do so much more. We are consistently building a pipeline for future openings and partnering with leadership to forecast staffing needs. As a team, we consistently review our recruitment process to ensure we are being inclusive to all who interview at Carrot.

On the Recruiting Team, we are brand ambassadors and are often a candidate's first interaction with Carrot. We hold our interview standards to the same high standards as our teams do with our Carrot Members. We are also involved in community building in Carrot. Many members of the team, including myself, are leaders of Employee Resource Groups for our AAPI community, Parents of Carrot, Black@Carrot, and Rainbow Carrots.

What is the best thing about your job?

This is not a plug for the People Team or Customer Success Team, but the best thing about my job is the people I work with. My team members and the teams I partner with for recruiting are amazing.

Why did you join Carrot?

When I originally started looking for my next opportunity, my two main focuses were finding a mission-driven company and a manager who would support my growth. I connected with an amazing agency, Bloom Talent, and they introduced me to Carrot. I sometimes can’t believe that I got the two things I wanted at one company — it still feels too good to be true.

What is your favorite perk about working at Carrot?

It is hard to choose! I love the flexibility and the opportunities that working from home gives me. I just got back from a trip to Arizona, where I was working during the day, and enjoying my new surroundings at night.

Our work-from-home stipend is another great perk. I usually use it for my internet bill, but I will admit that last month I used it to stock up on snacks. No regrets!

How would you describe Carrot’s culture?

Autonomous. Rewarding. Flexible.

What do you appreciate the most about working at Carrot?

This one is easy — the people. Everyone at Carrot genuinely cares about the mission, their colleagues, and the growth of the company.
